Agency Summaries

•    A Better Chance House provides  four-year academic & boarding scholarships to female minority students from inner-city areas.

     Center For Hope provides bereavement counseling as well as support and counseling for families living with life-threatening illnesses.

•     Child Guidance Center provides assistance to children and their families coping with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, developmental and family problems.

    Church World Service : A worldwide relief, development and refugee assistance ministry representing 36 denominations in the US .

    Domestic Violence Center provides counseling, advocacy, safe housing, and education to help individuals and their families suffering from emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

     Elderhouse: A facility that provides adult daycare for elderly suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, general confusion or depression. Services include activities, meals, medical monitoring, and transportation.

     George Washington Carver Center: A multi-faceted community center providing after-school and weekend programs, summer camps and academic support for school age children in Norwalk .

     Literacy Volunteers of SW Fairfield County teaches adults to read, write or speak English to promote basic literacy of English as a 1st or 2nd language.  Based in Norwalk and Bridgeport .

     Liberation Programs (LMG) provides residential and outpatient treatment and counseling for adolescents and families with drug or alcohol addictions. LMG also runs related community awareness programs to identify and cope with high-risk behaviors.

•     New Covenant House: A Stamford soup kitchen run by the Catholic Charities of Fairfield County.  It provides lunch and dinner 365 days per year.

     Norwalk Emergency Shelter provides shelter, transitional housing and employment counseling for the homeless as well as a 7-day a week, 3-meals a day soup kitchen.

     Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM): The ministry and mission of the United Church of Christ. It supports local and global ministries through local churches, associations, conferences and the national settings of our denomination.

     Person-To-Person provides emergency support in the form of financial assistance, groceries, clothing, furniture as well as educational and summer camp scholarships.

     Pilgrim Towers : An affordable independent 10-story senior housing facility in Stamford .  Fairfield County Congregational Churches, including Darien , founded it in 1968.

     Sexual Assault Crisis Center provides counseling, education, and advocacy for individuals and families suffering from sexual abuse.

     Shelter for the Homeless provides shelter, transitional housing and employment counseling to homeless men in Stamford . This is a 65-bed facility.

     St. Luke’s Life Works: Multi-faceted agency whose mission is to help individuals and families affected by homelessness, HIV/AIDS, and mental illness. Its programs address lifelong learning, emergency and supportive housing, and other types of direct aid.

     STAR provides variety of educational, employment, housing and advocacy services for children and adults with developmental disabilities, as well as their families.

     Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of SW CT provides skilled nursing care and therapeutic services in private homes and manages the Rosenthal Hospice, a12 bed facility located in Stamford.
