Youth Group

WELCOME!

The First Congregational Church offers two opportunities to get involved - a Middle School Youth Group (MSYG) for youth in grades 6-8 and a High School Youth Group (HSYG) for youth in grades 9-12. The groups come together for specific outreach activities or events, but are free to pursue interests - both social and mission focused - with their own peer group.  With both groups, our goal is to offer a place where kids can have fun, be real, and feel free to talk about what's really on their minds - all with the aim of getting closer to one another and to God.

The Google calendar is below. Anyone wishing to participate need simply contact Donna Polansky or Mychal Thigpen via e-mail or at 655-0491.

REGISTER YOUR CHILD TODAY!

We are planning to use e-mail to disseminate up-to-the-minute details of upcoming activities, so we are asking parents to please register your youth for the 2009-10 program year by completing the Registration and Medical form and the Liability and Emergency Release form recently mailed home.  Copies can also be downloaded by clicking here to download the PDFs. Students cannot participate in activities without these on file.  And only those who register will receive regular updates and e-mails.

YOUTH EXECUTIVE BOARD

This year we will be re-establishing the Youth Executive Board (YEB).  Kelsey Harrison and Christopher Friend have agreed to be our 12th grade representatives and co-presidents. The YEB will meet on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and will have a hand in guiding what programs and activities we plan, where we will go on our Mission Trip, and how we will give back to the Church.  The YEB will be comprised of at least two students (ideally one female and one male) from each grade.  Given the small size of the Middle School Youth Group, the 8th graders will represent the 6th and 7th grades for the time being.  As we grow the board, we will add more students and potentially break into two boards.  Please contact Donna Polansky or Mychal Thigpen via e-mail or at 655-0491 if your youth is/are interested in serving.

TEEN HELP FOR NURSERY ROOM
We are always looking for teens (9th graders and up) to work in the Nursery Room on Sundays.  If you would like to be included on the contact list, please send an e-mail to Donna Polansky.

We will send a monthly calendar out and will schedule everyone who wants to work.  It is expected that you’ll work from 9:45-11:00 a.m. and two teens are needed to help the adult volunteer each week.  This year, we will be paying $15 each Sunday.  If you stay for a second hour for special 11th Hour meetings, we will pay you an additional $10 per hour.  We know the hourly rate is slightly less than in the past—we know you’ll understand.  The Board of Christian Education is doing their part in to help balance our Church budget.

AWARD FOR CITIZENSHIP AND SERVICE

The FCC Award for Citizenship and Service is offered to encourage high school students to remain involved with the FCC Youth Group and the community services they offer. This award is one special way we can acknowledge participation and commitment to both the Church community and the community at large.  This award is appropriate to include on college applications.  Please contact Donna Polansky or Mychal Thigpen with questions.

Running Bingo Night for FCC families (March 2009)
The Board of Christian Education's Beach Blanket Bingo was a huge success with over 60 children and adults enjoying pizza, desserts, and Bingo fun.  Members of our Youth Group helped run the event -- serving pizza, calling Bingo (and keeping everyone laughing), and handing out prizes. Great fun was had by all!
